The incident took place in Bridgeport around 6 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6 on Reservoir Avenue near Saunders Avenue.

The child was in a 2005 Honda Accord with a 29-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman traveling northbound on Reservoir Avenue when the driver lost control and hit the utility pole before coming to rest on a tree off the northbound side of the road, said Sgt. Darryl Wilson of the Bridgeport Police.

All three occupants were transported to Bridgeport Hospital for injuries sustained during the accident, Wilson said. The man who was driving the car sustained minor injuries, the woman sustained serious injuries, and the 2-year-old died from his injuries, he added.

The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

The accident is being investigated by the Bridgeport Police Serious Crash Team.

"The Bridgeport Police send their condolences to the family and friends of the infant," Wilson said.
